This story began in 1960 or before; I’m unsure of the exact year or the exact reason. What I am sure of is it is all working out for the good and that is the most important thing. I didn’t have to give this much thought because it is something that came natural to me.

My mother, Martha Ann Sawyer, passed away nearly 10 years ago, but she left a legacy that will last for many years to come. She chose the letter K. Maybe one of my sisters will chime in and let me know why, but my mother decided that all of her girls would be given names that started with the letter K. After that fate took over.

My sisters accepted their names (they didn’t really have a choice did they?) and ran with the idea. Each of them have two kids, 5 girls and one boy all together. Of those six children, my mother’s grandchildren, my nephew has the only great-grandchild, a boy. You probably know what I’m getting at right? Everyone I just described decided to go along with my mother’s idea and they all have names that begin with a K. I will take a long breath (not really since I’m typing) and give their names.

  1. Karol
  2. Kathy
  3. Karen
  4. Kourtney
  5. Kendall
  6. Karlissa
  7. Kelsey
  8. Kandace
  9. Korbyn
  10. Kaiden

My brother has two kids also, but he decided not to take part in the whole K thing.  I can’t really blame him, but I was included in it.  I guess fate took over.  My wife, who is awesome for many reasons the least of which is she deals with me, must have been sent to include me in on this thing.  Her name is Kimberly!

All my nieces and nephews are pretty much stair-stepped when it comes to age.  The oldest is 25 and the youngest is 15.  I guess I should have two that are around 13 and 14, but things worked out differently and I’m just now about to get started - and possibly finished at the same time - having kids.

Hmm, what should I name my daughter?  Do you have any suggestions?  I mean I’m the last one in my family to have kids.  All the women in my family except for my brother’s wife and daughter have names that start with a K including my wife.  You want me to name her something that starts with a K don’t you?  How about I go one further.

For my mother, to finish amongst my siblings and continue with our children, I will keep this thing going in a special way.  My daughter’s name will be K.  It will not be Kay although the pronunciation is identical.  It will just be K.  It will be K because that is what her grandmother Martha Ann wanted for her daughters.  It will be K because fate sent her father a phenomenal woman with a name that starts with a K.

Her middle name will be Ann because that is what her grandmother Martha wanted for all of her daughters, that is what all her (K’s) female cousin’s middle names are and that is what her maternal grandmother Patricia’s middle name is.

Her name will be K Ann because she will be special.  I guess you could call her Special K.
